Bulawayo police have launched a hunt for a syndicate that is pouncing on victims owning luxury cars.
Provincial spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said two Toyota Fortuners were stolen on different occasions in the past week.
She said the victim was carjacked by two unknown accused persons at gunpoint on 11 June 2025.
The woman, aged 64, from Malindela had gone to Pumula South, where she wanted to monitor refurbishments that were being done at her other house.
The stolen vehicle is silver in color.
“She left the vehicle secured; at around 1130 hours, she went back to where she had parked the car, intending to return to Malindela.
“As she was trying to unlock the vehicle, she was approached by an unknown accused person who pointed a black pistol, demanding the car keys and threatening to shoot her if she did not comply.
Inspector Msebele said the woman surrendered the car keys.
“They forcefully took her sling bag, which had USD 43 and a plastic container with pain tablets valued at USD 50.
“They also took a bucket that was in the boot containing paint valued at USD 138.
“The accused persons jumped into the vehicle and sped off. A police report was made, and the total value stolen is USD 55,000, and nothing was recovered,” said Inspector Msebele.
She said on 16 June 2025, at around 2045, a couple traveling from Bulawayo towards Inyathi in a silver Toyota Fortuner were carjacked as the male victim had parked his car to recess.
“When they were close to Kingsdale shops, as he disembarked from the vehicle, five unknown accused persons emerged from behind the vehicle armed with a pistol and an Okapi knife.
“One of the accused persons, who was armed with the pistol, demanded the car keys and jumped into the vehicle.
“The other gang members got into the car and sped off and drove approximately 50 meters from the scene,” she said.
The wife was ordered to jump out of the vehicle.
“Inside the vehicle there were groceries valued at USD 50 and two iPhone Pro Max cellphones valued at USD 1 400.
“A police report was made, and the total value stolen is USD 46 450.”
