Prospectors Union Warns Resurveying Could Undermine Mining Rights

A new era in the mining sector has begun, following an agreement between the government and miners to implement the cadastre system, effective immediately.

The implementation of the cadastre system improves efficiency and transparency in managing mining rights, enhance governance and boost investment.

Addressing miners Zimbabwe Prospectors Union President Doctor Samson Dzingwe said engagements with their parent ministry were successful and and agreement was made that resurveying of claims and concessions should be done with effect from today.

He said all miners should comply with the government resolution to have a database computerised of mines dotted around the country.

“Ladies and gentleman it is with great honor to tell you that our engagement with our Ministry has been successful.

“There is no need for resistance, we expect all miners to comply with what government has recommended.

“It is the dawn of a new era in our sector where government has started the cadastre system that have been on the cards for almost a decade,” said Dr Dzingwe.

Over the past weeks, miners had resisted the initiative to resurvey their pieces of land without engagement with other stakeholders.

Miners argued violation of mining and property rights and would lead government being drawn before the courts.

However after interaction with the ministry and ZPU agreed to fully implement the exercise.
“Our agreement with ministry official is that all miners land will be resurveyed.

“The process will see you miners having an official registered mine surveyor at your mine.
“He or she will be working with a pegger and coordinates will be taken.

“From this stage all collected data will be automatically loaded in the mines ministry database.
“A great step in putting the cadastre system in motion.

“So on 1 July 2025 I urge you all to resume operations and comply with this initiative,” said Dr Dzingwe.
