Ritual murder case: Murewa boy found dead, parts missing

In a suspected ritual murder case, the remains of a seven year old boy were found in Murewa, Friday morning.

Samuel Murwira (78) of Makotore Village under Chief Mangwende said he discovered his dog and its puppies eating a dead body in his yard.

Investigations later revealed that it was the body of Tapiwa Makore who had gone missing the previous day and efforts to locate him had gone in vain.

A memo that was issued by CID Murewa in possession of this publication states that on 17 September 2020 at around 1000 hours, the now deceased was sent to the garden by his mother Lindah Munyori aged 31.

He took with him a lunch box which had food and a bottle of water.

On the same date at around 1500 hours, the now deceased’s parents followed to the garden. Upon arrival they discovered that the now deceased was not in the garden but his lunch box with food and bottle of water were there.

They enquired on the whereabouts of the now deceased from two minors from the same village who were also manning their parents’ gardens. Both indicated that they had last seen the now deceased swimming at a nearby pond.

A follow-up was made to the pond but they failed to locate the now deceased. The informant advised other villagers who assisted in search for the now deceased until around midnight but they failed to locate him.

On 18 September 2020 at around 0500 hours, Samuel Murwira aged 78 years of Makore village Chief Mangwende, Murewa discovered the body about 12 meters from his bedroom house due west.

He then alerted the informant and a report was made at ZRP Murewa.

This led to investigations by CID Murewa, Murewa DUB and Canine details who made observations suggesting that the remains belonged to Tapiwa Makore.

The remains found were an abdomen, without head, neck, both arms and both legs and a sharp object were used to cut off the missing parts. The missing parts raised the suspicion that the late minor’s body had been used to conduct rituals.

Searches were conducted in and around Summer Murwira’s homestead but nothing of interest was noted.

The body of the now deceased was conveyed to Murewa Hospital awaiting post mortem.
