HARARE – The Selekta Base Foundation, founded and led by Arnold Tinashe Chigweremwe, popularly known as Selekta Base, carried out a charitable outreach in Sunningdale over the weekend, extending support to vulnerable members of the community.
On Saturday, 1 February, the foundation distributed food hampers to elderly residents and people living with disabilities, reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility under the theme “Together We Can Make a Difference.”
The initiative drew the attendance of Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume, who applauded the foundation’s dedication to community development and humanitarian service.
In an official statement, the City of Harare acknowledged the efforts of the organisation, with Mayor Mafume commending Selekta Base for making meaningful contributions to the city through philanthropy and community engagement. He also recognised the foundation’s role in employment creation and its positive influence on Harare’s entertainment industry.
The outreach programme was supported by various bike and car clubs, as well as friends and community members, whose collective effort ensured the success of the event.
Expressing appreciation to all participants and supporters, the foundation emphasised the importance of compassion and unity in addressing social challenges. Selekta Base encouraged community action, noting that meaningful giving is driven by empathy and willingness to act rather than wealth.
During the event, Mayor Mafume also engaged residents on key service delivery concerns, including water shortages, sewer system challenges and deteriorating road infrastructure. He assured the public that the city, in collaboration with central government, is actively working towards sustainable solutions.
The Selekta Base Foundation has pledged to continue rolling out charitable programmes throughout the year, reinforcing its commitment to uplifting communities and demonstrating that collective effort can bring about real change.
