Masvingo – Women Action Group ( WAG) held a training mentorship program in Masvingo last week aimed at building a strong women’s movement that is vibrant an official confirmed.

The mentorship program which revolves around feminist leadership have been held in Masvingo, Bulawayo and Harare under the title ‘Building bridges for feminist movement building.

Edinah Masiiwa who is the Executive Director for WAG said the initiative is aimed at enhancing women’s capacity to influence decisions and build confidence.

“We saw it best to engage women and go out there were they are and have them learn. We need to build a women’s movement that is vibrant as in the 80s and 90s when we did have such movement but it faded away so we need to revive it again. We need to mentor women to be able to take leadership roles and know that they can lead.

“There is need for women to know that they can also fit in the political space and be leaders and role models, so this mentorship program aims at helping women to be able to solve conflict in the leadership sector. Women need to be taught to manage time wisely and also take grooming lessons seriously as they mold who we are,” said Masiiwa.

She also added that guidance will be provided for women after the mentorship program to strengthen their skills.

“We did not just come over for a mentorship program and end there, were are going to continue offering women the guidance they need till they reach their goals. We have identified leaders who will mentor the others; there is power in mentorship more than one can ever imagine so people need to take it seriously,” she said.

Women were also urged not wait for workshops but cascade information in all different spaces of meeting so as to share ideas and mold each other.

Women should focus on grooming each other as this will give women more power and have a better tomorrow.
