Fans of X Repo have been left worried after the show’s host, Xolani Maphanga, was hospitalised following a near-drowning incident at his home on Saturday, 6 December 2025.
According to those close to him, Maphanga was carrying out routine chores when he slipped and fell into his swimming pool. The fall left him with a serious fracture to his left leg, making it impossible for him to swim or pull himself out of the water.
A neighbour who heard his cries rushed over and managed to rescue him before emergency responders arrived. Maphanga was taken to hospital, where doctors performed surgery on Sunday to stabilise the broken leg. A second operation to insert metal plates was scheduled for Thursday.
Production of X Repo has been temporarily paused while he recovers. Despite the setback, Maphanga well known for his firm and fearless approach on the show—assured fans that he is determined to return as soon as he can, even if it means appearing on crutches. “This work is bigger than me. It’s about helping people,” he said.
Support has poured in from viewers and fellow public figures on social media, with many expressing relief that he survived and emphasising that accidents in and around water can happen to anyone, no matter how strong or confident they appear.
