MWOS FC maintained their position at the summit of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a narrow 1-0 victory over Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
The decisive moment came late in the game when Salif Cheya struck in the 87th minute, handing Lloyd Mutasa’s men a crucial three points.
This victory proved vital for MWOS, who reclaimed top position from Simba Bhora. Simba had temporarily gone ahead after drawing 1-1 with FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.
Following the win, MWOS now sit on 37 points—just one ahead of Simba Bhora, who occupy second place.
At Rufaro Stadium, Rodwell Dhlakama’s reign as Green Fuel head coach began with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against CAPS United.
Appointed just days earlier, Dhlakama expressed satisfaction with the outcome, especially after the team’s recent struggles.
“This is a big result for us. After last week’s heavy loss to Triangle, the team’s confidence had dropped. A draw against a strong side like CAPS United will surely lift the players’ spirits,” he said.
In contrast, CAPS United head coach Ian Bakala was left frustrated, saying his team didn’t meet expectations.
“We didn’t play the way we had planned, but considering our position, a point is still valuable. We’ll take it and move forward,” he remarked.

The draw leaves both teams on 20 points, with CAPS United in 11th and Green Fuel right behind in 12th on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Triangle United and Scottland FC played to a 0-0 stalemate at Gibbo Stadium. Despite failing to score, Triangle managed to move out of the relegation zone, climbing to 15th place with 17 points—nine ahead of bottom-placed Kwekwe United.
