Dagga Found in Bush Leads to 12-Month Jail Term for Lupane Man

A Lupane based dagga peddler will spend the next 12 months behind bars after he was found in possession of one kilogram of unpossessed dagga.

Mitshumayeli Sibanda (50) of Thuli village appeared before a Lupane Magistrates’ Court for unlawful possession of dagga.

NPA said on 6 July 2025, CID Lupane received a tip that Ndlovu was in possession of drugs nearby a local school in the village.

“Officers tracked the offender to a bushy area, where they introduced themselves and explained their mission.

“A search led to discovery of dagga hidden inside a plastic bag,” said NPA.

Sibanda was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment of which six months was suspended on condition of good behaviour. The recovered was forfeited by the State for destruction.
