Tyler Perry Hit with $260 Million Lawsuit by Former Co-Star Over Alleged Misconduct

Actor, director, and producer Tyler Perry is facing serious legal trouble following a $260 million lawsuit filed by Derek Dixon, a fellow actor from Perry’s television drama The Oval.

Dixon accuses Perry of s@xual harassment, assault, and professional retaliation.

According to details reported by the Associated Press, Dixon alleges that Perry leveraged his influence and authority to create a manipulative and s@xually charged environment.

The complaint claims that Perry promised him career-advancing opportunities—including help with producing a pilot and future casting prospects—only to allegedly subject him to inappropriate behavior when Dixon failed to respond positively to his advances.

The lawsuit paints a troubling picture, asserting that Perry orchestrated a “coercive, s@xually exploitative dynamic” while Dixon was employed on two of his productions, The Oval and Ruthless.

Tyler Perry’s attorney, Matthew Boyd, has dismissed the claims, calling them baseless and part of a scheme. “This is someone who got close to Mr. Perry with what now looks like ulterior motives,” Boyd said. “Tyler will not be extorted, and we are confident that these false accusations will not stand.”

The origin of the two men’s professional relationship dates back to 2019, when Dixon was working as an event staff member at a party hosted by Perry.

This led to an audition offer, followed by minor appearances in Ruthless and eventually a more significant role in The Oval.

The complaint reportedly includes several screenshots of explicit messages allegedly sent by Perry. One message cited in the lawsuit reads, “What’s it going to take for you to have guiltless s@x?”

Dixon reportedly approached the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) with a complaint in 2024. However, after receiving no meaningful response, he ultimately resigned from the show.

Perry, now 55, is widely known for creating and starring in the Madea movie series and for establishing a highly successful production company spanning both television and film. He has also featured in major films such as Gone Girl and Do Not Look Up.
