by Bustop TV News

Police in Manicaland have apprehended four individuals accused of demanding US$500 from a woman seeking to have her husband’s murder charge downgraded to culpable homicide.

The accused — Nigel Godwin Mukuruzado (34), Reginald Ndarera (20), Shaloom Nyamazana (26), and Tinashe Chiwaye (28) — are now facing extortion charges and are expected to appear in court shortly.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrests.

According to Nyathi, the incident occurred on August 27, 2025, when officers in Mutare detained the four suspects after they allegedly solicited money from the woman, whose husband is currently facing murder charges.

“One of the suspects had previously met the complainant’s husband while they were both in remand at Mutare Prison,” Nyathi explained. “He assured the woman that he could assist in having the murder charge reduced to culpable homicide.”

The suspects were arrested during a police operation as they were allegedly in the process of receiving the US$500.
