Dancehall powerhouse Winky D, born Wallace Chirumiko, has announced what is expected to be one of the most memorable performances of his career — the “Tête-à-Tête” concert, scheduled for August 30 at Alex Sports Club in Harare.
Taking to social media, Winky D declared, “August 30, The Tête-à-Tête concert at Alex Sports Club. Here we go,” channeling the signature announcement flair of renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The phrase “Tête-à-Tête” — French for a private or intimate conversation — takes on new meaning in the Gafa’s world, hinting at a direct, emotionally charged engagement with his fanbase.
Excitement continues to mount online as fans and fellow artists speculate on whether the concert will double as a launchpad for a new album.
Many are also eager to see who will join Winky D on the lineup — though the promotional posters remain minimalist, with no images of the artist or any supporting acts.
Despite the lack of visual promotion, fans have expressed confidence in the concert’s success. Culture Love, a fellow Zimdancehall artist, remarked, “There’s no image on the poster — not even of Bigman himself — yet everyone knows they’ll show up. Some artists are just chosen by God.”
Respected Zimbabwean boxer Themba Gorimbo added, “This is one man I deeply admire. We all await something special from this gifted son of the soil.”
Bazooka, known for the hit Kumba Kwedu, affirmed, “We’ll be there, no doubt. August 30 we stand with The Ninja President.”
Hip-hop star Holy Ten simply put it: “This proves Winky D is the number one artist in Zimbabwe.”
Meanwhile, D Flex, the Tsaona hitmaker, promised, “If we’re not in the crowd, then we’re backstage at ‘Tête-à-Tête’ for sure.”
The decision to host the concert at Alex Sports Club has drawn attention, particularly after Winky D’s public fallout with Gateway Stream Media, which led to a break from his long-standing relationship with the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC). Some fans now refer to Alex Sports Club as the artist’s new “Jabhuna,” symbolizing a fresh start in his live show history.
With his legacy firmly rooted in bold social commentary and thought-provoking lyricism, many anticipate that the Tête-à-Tête concert will go beyond entertainment, potentially addressing Zimbabwe’s socio-economic and political climate. True to the title, it’s expected to be a bold, unfiltered exchange between the artist and his audience.
Ahead of the main event in Harare, Winky D performed in Gweru on August 16 — a preview of what’s to come at the Alex Sports Club show. “It’s just a warm-up for what’s coming at the Tête-à-Tête concert,” one netizen wrote.
Winky D’s extensive list of collaborations includes celebrated names such as Holy Ten, ExQ, Tocky Vybz, Nutty O, Gemma Griffiths, Freeman, Enzo Ishall, Beenieman, and international acts like Jusa Dementor and Black Hero. His discography continues to evolve, anchored by powerful performances and socially charged lyrics that have earned him respect across generations.
As the countdown begins, fans and industry insiders agree: Tête-à-Tête isn’t just another concert — it’s shaping up to be a defining moment in Zimbabwean music.
All eyes are now on August 30.
