The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has apprehended eight individuals suspected of involvement in a series of armed robberies committed in and around Beitbridge between June 19 and August 20, 2025.

The suspects, identified as Tinashe Nkomo (alias Sadamu or Jeck, 39), Future Moyo (35), Decent Moyo (35), Obey Chiware (38), Wiseman Muleya (30), Tendai Mapira (45), Khumbulani Mabhena (42), and Admire Charumbira (36), are believed to be behind multiple violent robberies targeting individuals and businesses.

According to police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, investigations began after CID Beitbridge detectives received a tip-off implicating Future Moyo in a robbery that occurred on July 27, during which an airtime vendor in Garikai was robbed of ZAR 15,000 and two mobile phones.

Moyo, who was arrested while allegedly selling airtime at discounted prices, later provided police with information leading to the arrest of the other suspects.

Subsequent police operations led to the recovery of a Girsan pistol loaded with 36 rounds of ammunition, two getaway vehicles—a Honda Fit (AEO 9989) and a Toyota Probox (AGT 7877)—as well as airtime vouchers worth US$310.

The group is believed to be behind at least nine robbery cases, including:

  • A July 1 home invasion in the SDP New Stands area where ZAR 4,000, USD 3,000, and two phones were stolen.

  • A July 16 robbery at a shop in the same area, with thieves making off with ZAR 27,100, USD 130, two phones, and shoes.

  • An August 13 attack in Dulibadzimu, where an airtime vendor was robbed of USD 1,200, ZAR 2,000, and vouchers worth USD 2,500.

  • A New Stands house robbery where ZAR 99,400, USD 1,550, and a mobile phone were taken.

Commissioner Nyathi commended members of the public for providing crucial information that led to the arrests.

“We urge the community to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities. Anyone with further information can contact us via the National Complaints Desk at (0242) 703631, WhatsApp at 0712 800197, or report to their nearest police station,” he said.

The suspects are expected to face charges in connection with the robberies as investigations continue.
