A 22-year-old woman from New Parklands, Bulawayo, is in police custody after she allegedly stole a luxury vehicle worth US$70,000 and US$1,000 in cash from a man she had spent the night with.
According to police, Nicole Dube met a 37-year-old man on July 15 and agreed to spend the night at his home in Khumalo.
After sharing drinks, dinner, and retiring to bed, Dube allegedly waited until her host was asleep before taking his wallet and car keys.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said, “The man picked up the woman from Parklands and expressed romantic interest.
They went to his residence where they ate, drank, and went to bed around 10PM. While he was sleeping, the woman reportedly took his wallet containing US$1,000 and vanished.”
By midnight, the man discovered Dube and his property were missing. His Toyota Tundra, reportedly valued at US$70,000, was gone — as were the keys to his BMW.
Later, police were tipped off that the Tundra had crashed into a wall near Chicken Inn, close to the Tredgold Magistrates Court, and was abandoned at the scene.
Surprisingly, Dube allegedly returned to the man’s residence around 2AM in a taxi and was spotted by the gardener trying to steal the BMW.
The gardener quickly alerted the owner, and together they apprehended her before handing her over to police.
Inspector Msebele urged the public to exercise caution in their personal relationships. “Be wary of who you allow into your space — some individuals have hidden motives that could result in serious losses,” she said.
