The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of 35-year-old Geviza Fadzai of Village 2, Fair Range in Mkwasine, following the brutal killing of her three-year-old daughter.
The incident, which occurred on 25 November 2025, has left the community stunned especially after investigations suggested the attack stemmed from a dispute linked to a romantic relationship.
Police reports indicate that Fadzai allegedly fatally stabbed the toddler in the neck with a knife. After the incident, she is said to have attempted to disguise the crime by giving conflicting explanations.
She reportedly first informed a neighbour that the child had been murdered by four unidentified attackers. She then told the village head that the child had died of natural causes, allegedly hoping to speed up the burial process and avoid scrutiny.
However, the plan fell apart when villagers noticed a deep wound on the child’s neck during burial preparations. This discovery led to an immediate report being lodged at Mkwasine Police Station.
Further investigations by the ZRP uncovered a chilling motive: Fadzai allegedly killed her daughter to please a new boyfriend who reportedly refused to marry her while she had a child.
Police say the suspect is in custody awaiting her court appearance. Meanwhile, the child’s body has been taken to Chiredzi General Hospital for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
