Prominent businessman and chairperson of the Land Tenure Implementation Committee, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, has publicly disowned a number of social media accounts falsely claiming to represent him, Express Mail reported.
Tagwirei, known for his private lifestyle, is not active on any social media platforms and has not authorized anyone to speak, campaign, or post on his behalf—whether online or offline.
Insiders revealed that any accounts claiming to represent Tagwirei or his interests are unauthorized and should be treated as fraudulent.
This follows recent activity on a fake X (formerly Twitter) account that circulated misleading content, attempting to link Tagwirei to political ambitions and sow discord between him and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba promptly condemned the account, labeling it both fake and harmful.
“I have just spoken with Elder Tagwirei. He firmly denies any connection to those accounts, including one falsely using the name ‘Land Tenure Programme’,” said Charamba.
Charamba added that the false narratives seem to be driven by individuals trying to drag Tagwirei into political disputes unrelated to him. He clarified that the Land Tenure Programme is a government-led initiative under President Mnangagwa, not a private venture.
ZANU PF Deputy Secretary for Security, Tendai Chirau, also confirmed that Tagwirei is not involved with the misleading pages and emphasized that the title “Elder” refers strictly to his religious role in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
“People using his name to stir up political tension or gain traction are acting in bad faith. Mr. Tagwirei has no interest in running for president and remains committed to fulfilling the President’s directives,” said a senior government official.
The public has been advised to report any social media profiles falsely linked to Tagwirei, as he only communicates through official government platforms when necessary.
Images of Tagwirei enjoying a round of golf with President Mnangagwa have also circulated, further dismissing claims of any tension. In Zimbabwe’s political tradition, sports have long been a symbol of unity rather than division.
