The Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) has extended a formal congratulatory message to President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa following the successful completion of his one-year term as Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
CZR President Dr. Denford Mutashu applauded President Mnangagwa for his “exemplary regional leadership” and the seamless handover of the SADC chairmanship to Madagascar’s President, His Excellency Andry Rajoelina, during the recent summit held in Luanda, Angola.
Dr. Denford Mutashu commended President Mnangagwa’s term as one defined by “vision, diplomacy, and unwavering commitment” to regional unity, peace, and economic growth. “His active engagement in the Great Lakes region and beyond significantly contributed to fostering stability, promoting dialogue, and advancing cooperation,” read part of the statement.
Under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, SADC reinforced its regional industrialisation agenda, bolstered food and energy security initiatives, and strengthened mechanisms for collective response to security threats. CZR noted that his emphasis on unity and integration has left an “indelible mark” on the bloc’s future trajectory.
On the domestic front, the organisation also lauded Mnangagwa’s economic policies, which it said have contributed to stabilising the local currency and restoring business confidence. “These achievements demonstrate a clear alignment between national reforms and the broader regional vision for sustainable development,” said Dr. Mutashu.
In recognition of his contribution, CZR announced plans to host a high-level interactive dinner ceremony in honour of President Mnangagwa. The event will celebrate his tenure as SADC Chairperson and provide a platform for stakeholders to reflect on key milestones and discuss regional economic opportunities going forward.
“We commend His Excellency for his distinguished service to Zimbabwe, the region, and the African continent at large,” said CZR.
President Mnangagwa assumed the SADC chairmanship in August 2024. His successor, President Rajoelina of Madagascar, will now lead the 16-member regional bloc in addressing pressing challenges, including climate change, regional trade, and security cooperation.
