Youth Minister Tinoda Machakaire has pledged that justice will prevail following the brutal killing of prominent Ruwa businessman Joseph Mutangadura, who was fatally shot during a suspected robbery at his farmhouse last week.
Mutangadura, aged 67, was the owner of Lisheen Estate, the well-known Mutangadura Hideout, a chain of butcheries, and several other enterprises. He was attacked and shot at his estate located just outside Harare in Ruwa.
The businessman’s funeral, held on Saturday, drew thousands of mourners, including government officials, local celebrities, traditional leaders, and musicians such as Saintfloew and Qonfuzed. Business mogul and arts promoter Tinashe Mutarisi also attended.
Addressing mourners, Machakaire—who is also a relative of the deceased—reassured the public that the perpetrators would be held accountable.
“There’s a lot being said, but only the late Joseph knew exactly what happened. The entire nation is grieving. He was a generous man—who will fill the gap he’s left? The police are actively investigating, and in Zimbabwe, crimes like this don’t go unanswered. Justice will be done. We will get to the bottom of this, and the truth will be revealed,” said Machakaire.
According to police reports, seven masked intruders—armed with pistols, crowbars, and hammers—overpowered a security guard at the property. They tied him up and used metal bars to force their way into the farmhouse.
The suspects reportedly held both the guard and Mutangadura’s son in the dining area before heading to the bedroom, where Mutangadura and his wife were sleeping. He was shot in the stomach during the ordeal, while the suspects looted valuables from the house before fleeing.
Both Mutangadura and his wife were later found unconscious. He succumbed to his injuries, while his wife survived the attack.
As of now, police investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made.
