A tightly knit syndicate of armed robbers is on the loose in Bulawayo after committing four violent robberies in a single night in Luveve on 20 December.
Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the developments, saying investigations are underway to bring the culprits to book.
She said the first robbery was reported on 17 December 2025.
“On 17 December 2025 at around 1900 hours, the complainant, a 37-year-old male adult of Khumalo, Bulawayo, arrived at Hillside Shops from work driving a silver Honda Fit in the company of a friend, a 60-year-old male adult also from Khumalo.
“The two are employed as security guards and were armed with a company service pistol for cash-in-transit duties. They had been tasked to collect US$500 at Hillside Shopping Centre.
“After parking their vehicle, they were approached by four male adults, one armed with a pistol and a log. All the suspects were wearing face masks,” said Inspector Msebele.
She said the suspects started firing gunshots at the vehicle, prompting the complainant to return fire.
“The accused persons then ran back to their motor vehicle and sped off,” she said.
Inspector Msebele said another incident occurred on 20 December 2025 at around 0200 hours.
“The complainant, a 42-year-old male adult of Old Luveve, Bulawayo, was asleep when he was awakened by banging noises on the door.
“Three unknown male adults, wearing balaclavas and armed with a machete, an unidentified black pistol and iron rods, gained entry and proceeded to the bedroom where he was with his wife and child.
“The suspects demanded cash and the complainant handed over US$240. They ransacked the house looking for more money before stealing two cellphones valued at US$420 and fleeing,” she said.
She said on the same day at around 0215 hours, another robbery was reported in Old Luveve.
“The complainant, a 47-year-old male adult, was asleep when he heard a loud bang on the main door. He noticed people moving inside the yard and rushed out of his bedroom to investigate.
“He was confronted by three male adults wearing balaclavas and armed with a machete, an unidentified black pistol and iron rods, which they were using to force open the door.
They threatened to kill him and demanded cash, taking US$420 and R500 from the bedroom before fleeing,” said Inspector Msebele.
Another robbery occurred at around 0245 hours the same night.
“The complainant, a 21-year-old male adult of Old Luveve, was asleep in his bedroom when three unknown suspects forcibly entered the house.
“The suspects, wearing balaclavas and armed with a machete, an unidentified black pistol and iron rods, threatened him and searched his wardrobe, stealing US$200 cash belonging to his mother before leaving,” she said.
