Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has paid glowing tribute to Zimbabweans living in the diaspora, describing them as a vital pillar of the nation and “unofficial ambassadors” who continue to uphold the country’s identity, values and pride across the world.
In a statement released today, Chamisa said although millions of Zimbabweans now live and work outside the country, their bond with home remains unbroken. He noted that Zimbabwe is not only defined by its geographical borders, but by its people wherever they may be found.
“Zimbabwe’s flag flies high because of its people. Wherever you are in the world, you carry Zimbabwe with you. Though scattered across the world, Zimbabwe beats in you,” Chamisa said.
He commended the diaspora community for representing the nation with dignity, excellence and resilience, often excelling in their respective fields despite the challenges of living far from home. According to Chamisa, their conduct and achievements continue to reflect positively on Zimbabwe on the global stage.
“To every son and daughter in the diaspora, we appreciate you for carrying our flag in your spirit and our values in your actions. Zimbabwe is not just a place on a map it lives in its people,” he added.
Chamisa further encouraged Zimbabweans abroad to remain focused on personal growth, urging them to learn, earn and strengthen their skills. He stressed that the knowledge, expertise and experience gained in the diaspora will be critical in the future rebuilding of the country.
“You are not there for no reason. Learn, earn and strengthen. We will soon need your skills, talents, expertise and experience to rebuild a new nation a New Great Zimbabwe,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming that distance does not weaken national identity, saying that even far from home, Zimbabweans in the diaspora remain deeply connected to the country.
“From home to every corner of the world, far from home yet never apart Zimbabwe walks with you. Our Zimbabwe shines through you, our diaspora, our pride, our ambassadors to the world,” Chamisa said.
The message has resonated widely among Zimbabweans living abroad, many of whom continue to play a significant role through remittances, skills transfer and advocacy, keeping the spirit of Zimbabwe alive beyond its borders.
