Prominent businessman Wicknell Chivayo has made a significant donation to honour ZANU PF’s ten Provincial Chairpersons, recognizing their role in driving grassroots mobilisation and maintaining party unity.
The gesture was made in celebration of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s 83rd birthday, commemorated nationally as Munhumutapa Day.
As part of the tribute, each Provincial Chairperson will receive a brand-new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXR, each valued at US$190,000. In addition, Chivayo is donating US$100,000 in cash to each chairperson to support development and empowerment initiatives within their respective provinces.
“Our provincial leaders have worked very hard in the shadows, but rarely receive the public recognition they deserve. They have kept the wheels of the revolution turning and the party united,” Chivayo said.
The donation underscores Chivayo’s support for ZANU PF’s grassroots leadership and his appreciation of the party’s organisational structure, which he praised for its discipline, unity, and ability to deliver on electoral promises.
In a parallel gesture aimed at strengthening Zimbabwe’s public health infrastructure, Chivayo is donating 10 top-of-the-range Toyota Land Cruiser ICU ambulances, each valued at US$90,000. The ambulances are intended for government general hospitals in each provincial capital, as part of broader efforts to support the Second Republic’s hospital renovation initiatives.
However, Chivayo noted that the ambulance handover is subject to approval by President Mnangagwa, whom he referred to respectfully as “the Principal.”
“This is a small token of appreciation, and only possible with the blessings of the President. It is my humble request that these ambulances be handed over in honour of His Excellency’s 83rd birthday,” he added.
Chivayo, who has made headlines in recent years for his philanthropic and political gestures, stated that this donation is only the beginning of broader efforts to support party structures and national development. He expressed particular admiration for the ZANU PF Provincial Chairpersons, calling them “unsung heroes” of the revolution.
“When God continues to bless me further, I will never stop. I will certainly consider extending appreciation to all the other very important organs of the party,” Chivayo said.
He also acknowledged a delay in recognising the party’s provincial leadership following ZANU PF’s victory in the 2023 harmonised elections, stating that the birthday of the Head of State presented the perfect occasion to do so.
Chivayo commended ZANU PF’s well-established structure, stretching from the Presidium to cell level, and contrasted it with what he described as the “fractured and poorly coordinated opposition.” He suggested that ZANU PF should be studied globally as a model of political organisation and service delivery.
The donations have sparked mixed reactions online, but many within the party have welcomed the gesture as a timely show of loyalty and support for both party structures and national institutions.
