Ex-Mines Minister Chidhakwa Seeks Reentry into ZANU PF After 2017 Ouster

Former Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Walter Chidhakwa, has expressed his desire to return to the ruling ZANU PF party, nearly eight years after his expulsion in 2017.

Chidhakwa, who previously served as the Zvimba South legislator and was a Central Committee member, was among several high-ranking officials who lost their positions following the ouster of then-President Robert Mugabe.

News of his intention to rejoin the party surfaced during a ZANU PF Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting held on Saturday at the Public Service Training Centre in Chinhoyi.

At the gathering, Mashonaland West ZANU PF Chairperson Mary Mliswa-Chikoka read a letter from Chidhakwa requesting re-admission. The proposal was met with unanimous support from the attending party delegates.

Sanyati District Chairperson Langton Mabhanga endorsed the move, stating that ZANU PF is an inclusive organization open to welcoming back former members who may have deviated from the party line.

“Our party, under the leadership of His Excellency, believes in reconciliation and re-engagement. We must welcome back our comrades who once strayed,” Mabhanga said.

Following the PCC’s endorsement, Mliswa-Chikoka confirmed that a formal application would be submitted to the party’s headquarters for final consideration.

Separately, during the same meeting, Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi issued a stern warning to party members misusing social media platforms. He cautioned that the government would soon enforce cyber laws to deal with offenders.

“Discipline is essential. Social media must be used responsibly. Those who continue to abuse these platforms should be prepared to face the consequences,” Ziyambi warned.
