A bakery delivery driver in Harare has become the center of a disturbing case involving alleged extortion, after he was found in a compromising situation with a married woman — and was forced to pay money reportedly taken from his employer’s funds to secure his release.
The incident unfolded when Rangarirai Mhonda was allegedly discovered partially undressed inside the home of Tracy Mashonga. Her husband, Wilsher Tichawona Rwodzi, reportedly confronted Mhonda while accompanied by another man. The two are said to have filmed Mhonda during the encounter and then physically assaulted him.
The pair demanded US$1,000, threatening to post the explicit video online to humiliate both Mhonda and his employer, a local bakery, thereby escalating the pressure.
According to reports, Mhonda did not have enough money to meet the demand. He handed over US$180 from his daily bread sales and reached out to friends for help. One friend allegedly arrived with an additional US$200, bringing the total to US$380, which was handed over before Mhonda was released.
Investigators believe the incident may have been a deliberate setup, suggesting the bedroom door was left unlocked intentionally to lure Mhonda into a trap. In one of the videos being circulated, Mhonda is reportedly forced to identify his employer and reveal personal details under pressure.
Following his release, Mhonda reported the matter to the police. Rwodzi and his accomplice were subsequently arrested.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrests and said an investigation is underway to establish all the facts and determine whether extortion charges will be formally laid.
