Two employees of the City of Harare lost their lives on Thursday morning while working at the Firle sewer treatment facility in Glen View. The exact circumstances leading to their deaths remain unclear.
In a public statement, the City of Harare confirmed the incident and noted that an investigation is currently underway. Further details will be disclosed once more information becomes available.
“This morning, two of our employees tragically passed away while carrying out their duties at the Glen View sewer treatment plant,” the statement reads. “The matter is being investigated by the police, the National Social Security Authority (NSSA), and City of Harare officials.”
The local authority expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public of a thorough investigation.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released, as authorities follow due process in notifying their next of kin.
This incident follows another workplace fatality earlier this month, where a municipal employee, Simon Maketo, died after being injured while working in Manyame Park.
Across many regions of Zimbabwe, municipal workers frequently face hazardous working conditions, often without access to sufficient protective gear, increasing their vulnerability to occupational accidents.
