A Harare-based preacher, Dumisani Mawoyo, popularly known as Pastor Dumi and affiliated with both ZAOGA (Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa) and Forward In Ministries in the United States, is now embroiled in a legal dispute after allegedly failing to repay a substantial personal loan.
According to reports by NewsHawks, Pastor Mawoyo is being sued by his associate Benson Maeka, who claims he lent the clergyman US$80,000 on January 6, 2024.
The two are said to have formalized the agreement in writing, with the understanding that no interest would be charged.
Despite the clear terms, Mawoyo reportedly missed the agreed-upon repayment deadline.
After multiple attempts to recover the money, including a formal demand in November 2024, Maeka claims Mawoyo became evasive—prompting him to seek legal intervention.
The case has triggered mixed reactions online. While some have condemned what they view as the unnecessary exposure of a private matter, others have expressed doubts about the pastor’s integrity, citing past allegations linked to his time in the U.S.—including rumored issues with the IRS over tax fraud.
