Joseph Mutangadura Burial Set for Saturday

Joseph “Mutangaz” Mutangadura, a prominent businessman and owner of several ventures including the Mutangadura Hideout and Lisheen Estate, was fatally shot at his family farmhouse in Ruwa shortly after midnight in what police suspect to be a targeted robbery.

His daughter, Kundisai Mutangadura, speaking through tears, said the family is still struggling to come to terms with the loss.

“I’m still in denial,” she said. “My sisters were trapped inside the house. They were calling for help, but no one came in time.”

According to family sources, multiple gunshots were heard around 12:15 a.m. at the Mutangadura farmhouse, located on the outskirts of Ruwa. Neighbors reported hearing the gunfire, but by the time anyone reached the property, Mutangadura had already succumbed to his injuries.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene before security personnel or police could respond. Details on what, if anything, was stolen remain unclear.

Mutangadura was widely known for his business ventures across Mashonaland East, including a chain of butcheries and the popular social venue, Mutangadura Hideout, which has become a fixture in the Ruwa community.

Police homicide detectives remained at the scene into Monday afternoon, combing through the property for forensic evidence and interviewing family members and employees. While authorities have not yet released an official statement on the motive, early indications point to a possible armed robbery.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged anyone with information to come forward.

“We are treating this matter with the utmost urgency. We appeal to members of the public who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area to assist us in the investigation,” Nyathi said.

The tragic killing has sent shockwaves throughout the community and business circles alike, with many taking to social media to express condolences and demand justice.

A video interview with Kundisai Mutangadura, as well as footage from the crime scene, was captured by journalist Anesu Masamvu.

The family has not yet announced funeral arrangements.
