N. Richards Employee Allegedly Flees with US$12,000

Police are on the hunt for a till operator from N. Richards Group, Philisani Nyathi, who allegedly disappeared with US$12,000 in company funds on July 15, 2025.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the case and urged local businesses to implement stricter cash handling procedures.

“We are investigating a report involving an employee who allegedly stole US$12,000 from N. Richards. We appeal to the public for assistance in locating the suspect,” said Inspector Dhewa. “Companies should avoid keeping large sums of money with till operators and instead use banking services for secure cash management.”

According to internal sources, Nyathi had been conducting routine sales throughout the morning before leaving around 2 PM, claiming he needed to collect change from a nearby branch. When he failed to return and could not be reached by phone, suspicions arose.

A review of the day’s transactions later revealed that Nyathi had handled cement sales totalling US$12,000 — funds that were never banked. His phone was reportedly switched off, prompting the company to issue an alert.

N. Richards Group has since offered a US$2,000 reward for any credible information that leads to his arrest.
