Scottland FC head coach Tonderai Ndiraya has admitted that, despite the club’s star-studded lineup, they remain a relatively inexperienced team in Zimbabwe’s top-flight league.
Expectations have been high for the ambitious newcomers following a flurry of big-name signings and substantial investment ahead of their Premier Soccer League debut. However, Scottland has struggled to keep pace with fellow debutants MWOS, who currently top the table with 40 points—12 ahead of Scottland, who sit in fifth place.
Speaking after Scottland’s narrow 1–0 defeat to CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium on Matchday 19 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, Ndiraya acknowledged that pressure has mounted due to their high-profile squad and financial backing.
“We’re still a new team in this league,” Ndiraya told reporters. “Yes, a lot has been invested into the club, but with that comes expectations—and pressure.”
He added, “We have quality players, no doubt, but as a team, we’re still finding our feet. We’re competing while learning, and our aim is to keep improving and winning matches.”
Ndiraya also noted that the strong form of MWOS—who were promoted alongside Scottland from Division One—has further intensified scrutiny on his side.
“Our promotion alongside MWOS has led to comparisons. They’re doing very well, and that naturally increases the pressure on us. But football takes time. The season isn’t over, and we’ll keep pushing.”
Scottland made headlines before the season with a high-profile squad overhaul. In addition to the recent signing of Terence Dzvukamanja from South Africa’s SuperSport United, the club brought in several top local talents, including Khama Billiat, Peter Muduhwa, 2024 Golden Boot winner Lynoth Chikuhwa, and reigning Soccer Star of the Year Walter Musona.
