Bulawayo police made a major breakthrough after they nabbed a notorious robber and car jacker who had been evading arrest over the past five months.
An alert complainant and members of the public cornered the robber on 16 May 2025. Police intervened and during interrogation the suspect confirmed being behind a slew of robberies.
Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said Alexandra Ngwenya (28) was arrested in connection with four armed robbery cases.
She said Ngwenya is also facing carjacking and theft trust property charges.
“Investigations are still going on with hope of clearing more cases.
“Sometime during the period of November 2024, Ngwenya acting in cahoots with his accomplices Zibusiso Ndlovu (age not given) and Tyson Taylor Moyo (29) committed a string of armed robbery cases.
“The trio on several occasions would unlawfully enter different complainants’ houses and rob them off cash
and cellphones at gunpoint,” said Inspector Msebele.
She said the gang hijacked cars around the city and Ngwenya fled with USD 4 000 of trust property he was send to collect.
“On 18 December 2024, Ndlovu and Moyo were arrested and implicated Ngwenya. Police were trailing him since and his accomplices are currently on remands.
“The grand total stolen is USD 14 400.00 and USD 5 000 has been recovered,” said Inspector Msebele.
