A dispute between a mother and son in Bulawayo over spilt cooking oil took a tragic turn when the son, in a fit of anger and protest, consumed rat poison, resulting in his death.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the tragic incident saying Thabiso Ndlovu (21) of Cowdray Park took his life after drinking a rate killer poison.
“On 12 July 2025 at around 1300 hours, the now deceased’s mother aged 41, warned him to stop worst cooking oil since he had since he had spilt the contents om the floor.
“This did not go well with the son who got angry and drank a ray killer poison.
“Her mother saw him vomiting and when she asked what the problem was, the now deceased confirmed that he had drank the killer rat poison,” said Inspector Msebele.
She said Ndlovu was rushed to Mplilo hospital where he was admitted.
“On 14 July 2025 at around 0540 hours, the mother of the now deceased received a call from hospital to the effect that her son had passed on.”
