Police in Cape Town are investigating a tragic shooting in Mitchell’s Plain that claimed the lives of two women and left a 12-year-old boy injured on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3pm along Westpoort Drive in the Portland area, where officers responding to a report of gunfire discovered the women, aged 26 and 30, with multiple bullet wounds. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other died later in hospital.
According to police spokesperson Colonel André Traut, the suspect — a 32-year-old man believed to be related to the victims — was arrested at the scene shortly after the shooting.
Authorities suspect the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. The injured boy, who was caught in the crossfire, is receiving treatment in hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect is expected to appear soon before the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder.
