ZYAP Warns Youth Minister to Change Character

by Bustop TV News

The Zimbabwe Youth Action Platform (ZYAP) has called on Tino Machakaire, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training of Zimbabwe, to change his leadership approach and take a more visible role in defending President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The remarks were made during a press conference held on Friday, 27 February 2026,  at the Media Centre, 2nd Floor, Bothwell House, corner First Street and Jason Moyo Avenue in Harare.

The press briefing focused on ZYAP’s position and unfolding developments regarding the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment No. 3 Bill of 2026. The conference was addressed by ZYAP President Tonderai Chidawa and ZYAP Secretary General Quest Roddy Lunga, and was broadcast live on the Media Centre – Zimbabwe Facebook platform.

Responding to questions from journalists, Chidawa said the Minister must take the lead in protecting and defending President Mnangagwa.

“We had leaders like Nkosana and Chipanga who stood firmly with former President Robert Mugabe. Why is he not doing the same as Minister of Youth?” Chidawa asked.

He stressed that his concerns were not personal but related to leadership style and engagement with young people.

“I don’t have a problem with the Minister, but his approach must change,” Chidawa said.

He added that the Minister should actively engage with the youth and demonstrate strong, visible leadership similar to that of the late Border Gezi, who was known for mobilising and working closely with young people.

“You must be with the youth like Border Gezi was. He must lead by example, not just focus on what some misguided youths say about the President,” he said.

ZYAP maintained that youth leadership requires direct involvement, clear public positioning, and firm support for national leadership.
