The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is offering International Fellowships for the 2026–2027 academic year. These awards are designed to support women from outside the United States who wish to pursue full-time graduate or postgraduate studies or research at accredited institutions in the U.S.

Eligible Institutions:

Only institutions accredited in the United States are eligible host universities.

Fields and Levels of Study:

The fellowships are available for:

  • Master’s or first professional degrees, including but not limited to programs like J.D., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch., M.D., and D.D.S. (Note: Undergraduate, associate degrees, and certificate programs are not eligible.)

  • Doctoral degrees such as Ph.D., Ed.D., and other research-based doctorate programs.

Number of Awards:

AAUW does not specify a fixed number of fellowships to be awarded.

Who Can Apply:

The fellowship is open to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Priority is given to candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing women and girls through community service, advocacy, or professional efforts.

Fellowship Funding:

  • $20,000 for Master’s/professional degree students

  • $25,000 for Doctoral candidates

Payments are made directly to the fellow in two equal installments—at the beginning and midpoint of the fellowship year.

  • Identify as women

  • Be admitted or currently enrolled in their first master’s or doctoral program in the U.S.

  • Hold an academic qualification equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree (with a minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 in the highest degree obtained)
