A bombshell investigation has uncovered a sprawling business empire and luxury property portfolio owned by Zimbabwe’s former Finance Minister, Tendai Biti, raising serious questions about the source of his wealth.
Documents obtained from UK Companies House reveal that Biti is linked to at least 20 companies registered in the United Kingdom, ranging from consulting firms to investment ventures, tech startups, and even a dissolved pizza and grill business.
Additionally, property records show he owns multiple high-end properties in some of London’s most affluent neighbourhoods.
Biti’s companies, registered under variations of his name, include Biti Consulting Limited, incorporated in February 2025, Biti Invest Ltd and Biti Invest 2 & 3 Ltd, registered between 2023 and 2024, Biti Tech Ltd in December 2024, Biti Trans Ltd in August 2020, Biti Homes Ltd in February 2024, and Biti and Rushwaya & Mashava Ltd in June 2023.
Several of his earlier ventures, such as Biti Pizza & Grill Peri Peri Ltd, later renamed Wink Fish & Chips Ltd, and Biti Shop Ltd, have since been dissolved.
Property records indicate Biti owns at least six prime properties in London, including 18 Cadogan Place in Fulham, purchased in July 2014 and valued at over £3 million; 45 Sloane Avenue in Chelsea, acquired in April 2019 in an upscale area popular with millionaires; 62 King’s Road in Sloane Square, bought in June 2019 in one of London’s most prestigious addresses; and 231 Battersea Park Road, secured in October 2016 in a sought-after riverside location.
Biti, who served as Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister from 2009 to 2013 under the Government of National Unity, has long positioned himself as a champion of economic reform and anti-corruption.
However, the scale of his UK-based assets has sparked debate over how he amassed such wealth on a modest government salary.
Political analysts suggest that Biti’s extensive business interests could point to consultancy deals, investments, or undisclosed partnerships, but critics demand transparency.
Efforts to reach Biti for comment were unsuccessful.
According to the report, Biti has companies with Presidential Chief Secretary Martin Rushwaya, Attorney General Virginia Mabhiza, who uses her maiden surname Sithole, and Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume.
As scrutiny intensifies, the exposure of Biti’s wealth raises broader concerns about Zimbabwean elites stashing fortunes abroad while the country grapples with economic crisis.
