A major fire broke out at the Glen View 8 Furniture Complex in Harare on Sunday, 27 July 2025, prompting a swift emergency response from the City of Harare fire brigade, supported by volunteers from the Emergency Help Group.
An estimated 300,000 litres of water were used to bring the fire under control. The blaze has since been successfully contained.
Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume visited the site and applauded the timely and collaborative effort by both the city’s firefighters and volunteer groups.
“As is now customary, the Mayor arrived at the scene to show solidarity with the fire crews and offer moral support,” read an official City of Harare update posted to Facebook at 10:53 AM.
The statement continued:
“The City of Harare extends its gratitude to the brave firefighters and the Emergency Help Group, who together managed to mobilize 300,000 litres of water to tackle the fire. Their swift action helped contain the situation.”
Earlier that morning, the City had acknowledged the incident in a separate Facebook announcement at 10:11 AM, confirming that the blaze had overtaken the complex and that firefighting teams were on-site.
Investigations are now underway to determine the cause of the fire. While the source remains undetermined, officials highlighted the presence of highly flammable materials—such as wood shavings—commonly found at the complex.
This is not the first time Glen View 8 has suffered a fire outbreak. Vendors and nearby residents have repeatedly urged authorities to implement better fire safety measures, including the installation of fire hydrants and surveillance equipment.
As of now, no new announcements have been made regarding long-term fire prevention strategies or damage assessments. There were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident.
