CMPL Executive The most disciplined team award went to Bolero PC of Highlands and best Hosting club award went to Kweneng PC of Norton. The ceremony saw US$5,470 being handed out in prize monies. CMPL was formed in early 2024, and despite being a relatively new organisation, it has made significant strides in promoting pool in Zimbabwe.
In her opening remarks during the event the Chairperson of the League, Ms Lunia Nyongani, said the League is predominately a social league comprised of various captains of industry, businessmen, analysts, bankers, doctors, and engineers, and youths from all four corners of Greater Harare.
The League has grown over these past two years and has this year cemented itself as one of the biggest upcoming pool leagues in the country and has been instrumental in campaigns promoting the sport and fighting substance abuse among youths.
She was happy with the gender balance and inclusivity as more and more women have been included in the league with every team having ladies playing among the men in this male-dominated sport. As part of their roadmap, they intend to affiliate to ZIPA come 2026 season. CMPL board member, Mr Wellington Takavarasha, who is also the CEO of Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF), expressed gratitude to its members and supporters for their loyalty and commitment to the sport.
The board also acknowledged the efforts of the executive team, particularly the treasurer, for their transparency and hard work in managing the organization’s finances.
The constitution, which has been a contentious issue, is being reviewed and amended to ensure that it is fair, transparent and addresses all issues transparently and effectively. Looking ahead to 2026, the board mentioned plans to expand its operations with a focus to recruit more eligible teams into the League.
Among other things the board committed to improve on were disciplinary issues and the umpiring standards. The board thanked the executive team for their relentless hard work and dedication, and congratulated all the winners of the recent tournament.
The guest of honour at the event was Mr Edgar Gama who, through his company Lifel Investments, has been one of the biggest sponsors of sportswear and apparel which was also donned by the Winning team. He pledged continual support to CMPL in 2026 and beyond.
