Family Robbed at Gunpoint

A Bulawayo family has been left shell-shocked after four unidentified men, one armed with a pistol, pounced on them at their home and fled with over USD 3,000.

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, confirmed the incident, stating that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspects.

“Police are investigating a case of armed robbery which occurred in Emganwini, Bulawayo,” said Inspector Msebele.

She said the incident took place on 12 August 2025, at around 2015 hours, when the complainant—a 39-year-old male—his 36-year-old wife, and their 22-year-old nephew returned to their residence in Emganwini from Bulawayo’s Central Business District.

The complainant was driving his white Nissan Caravan.

“Upon parking the motor vehicle in the yard—and before they could close the gate—the trio were approached by two unknown male adults, wearing balaclavas and armed with an unidentified pistol,” said Inspector Msebele.

“The suspects ordered them to disembark from the vehicle, and they complied. One of the suspects got into the complainant’s vehicle, reversed it, and parked it outside the yard.”

Inspector Msebele said the remaining three suspects force-marched the victims into the house, where they demanded money.

“The suspects searched the victims and took cash amounting to USD 3,290 and ZAR 250. They then locked the three inside a bedroom and drove away in the complainant’s motor vehicle.”

The complainants later sought help from neighbours, who came and unlocked the door. A report was subsequently made to the police.
