Tragedy struck earlier today when a fatal road traffic accident claimed the lives of four people along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the deadly collision, which occurred at approximately 1100 hours at the 34-kilometre peg of the busy highway.
According to a statement released by the national police spokesperson, the crash involved a Govasberg bus and a tractor.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident that occurred today at approximately 1100 hours at the 34 kilometre peg along Masvingo-Mbalabala Road, resulting in the loss of four lives when a Govasberg bus collided with a tractor. Further details will be forthcoming,” said the police in a brief statement.
Emergency services attended the scene, and the process of identifying the deceased is currently underway. The number of injured persons and the extent of their injuries remain unconfirmed at this stage.
Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash. Traffic on the route was briefly disrupted as recovery and rescue efforts took place.
This latest incident adds to a growing number of fatal road accidents in Zimbabwe, many of which have been blamed on human error, mechanical faults, and poor road conditions.
The ZRP has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, particularly during the upcoming winter season, when visibility and road conditions can deteriorate rapidly.
