Authorities are now linking a Honda Fit vehicle to the tragic Seke Road accident that claimed 17 lives near Hunyani Bridge, in what is being described as one of Zimbabwe’s deadliest road crashes in recent memory.
Initial reports suggest the Honda Fit may have triggered the fatal sequence of events by allegedly cutting into the path of a haulage truck. In an attempt to avoid hitting the smaller car, the truck driver reportedly veered into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a commuter omnibus.
The impact was devastating — the kombi was dragged and crushed beneath the heavy truck, leaving it completely flattened by the time emergency responders arrived.
Authorities have confirmed that 17 people died on the spot, while three others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, although preliminary accounts suggest the Honda Fit’s maneuver played a pivotal role. The crash site has been cordoned off as efforts to identify the deceased and gather additional evidence continue.
The tragic event has renewed calls for responsible driving and heightened awareness on Zimbabwe’s busy highways.
