A Karoi joint task force comprising the police and ZimParks officers doing a routine area check arrested a man they found in possession of a rifle and ammunition.
Court records state that Zakaria Komboni (25) appeared before a Karoi Magistrates” Court for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
NPA said, The task force discovered 23 rounds of .22 calibre rifle ammunition concealed in a plastic bag inside Komboni’s vehicle.”
Upon interrogation, Komboni failed to produce a valid firearms certificate.
“The following day police proceeded to Komboni’s house in Chiedza Karoi, where they recovered a 22 long rifle (Carl model) hidden in his bedroom.
“Again he failed to produce a certificate,” said NPA.
Komboni was fined USD 150 or three months imprisonment on the first count; for count two, he was fined USD 400 or four months imprisonment.
