In a major breakthrough, Masvingo police have arrested a hardcore criminal who has been evading police for the past two years.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Tafadzwa Janyure Zaranyika (29) is assisting police with investigations in connection to at least 203 cases.
“On 19 June 2025, police in Ngundu arrested the suspect in connection with a series of robberies, rape, and murder cases committed in and around Masvingo since 2023.
“Police have so far linked the suspect to 203 cases of robbery, kidnapping, rape, theft of a motor vehicle, and malicious damage to property,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He said the crimes were committed in Mwenezi, Ngundu, Renco, Muchakata, Zaka, and surrounding areas.
“The cases include a murder case in which he allegedly struck Jacob Museva with a mattock on 6 June 2025 after the victim had tried to rescue a robbery victim at Lundi Business Centre, Mwenezi.
“The suspect has since appeared in court for initial remand and was remanded in custody to 4 July 2025,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
