In a deeply disturbing incident, a 19-year-old man in Harare was arrested after allegedly retrieving a human foetus from a trash bin and attempting to sell it as beef.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as Stelly Marecha, who now faces charges related to the violation of a human corpse.
“Police in Harare apprehended Stelly Marecha on July 4, 2025, in connection with the unlawful handling of human remains,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
According to police reports, Marecha discovered the foetus wrapped in a black plastic bag inside a garbage bin located at the intersection of Mbuya Nehanda and Albion streets in Harare’s central business district. He then allegedly tried to deceive a 27-year-old man into buying the remains, claiming it was beef.
Authorities are still searching for the individual who initially discarded the foetus. The ZRP has appealed to the public for any information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the person responsible.
