Police Probe Suspected Arson at Temba Mliswa’s Shurugwi Homestead

Police have opened an investigation following a suspected arson attack at the rural homestead of Temba Mliswa in Shurugwi, where he also holds the position of village head.

On Thursday, Mliswa alleged that unknown individuals set fire to his property, suggesting that the attack was connected to his anti-corruption efforts.

In a statement shared on X, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed it is probing a case of malicious damage to property at Mliswa’s residence. The statement read:
“The ZRP confirms that investigations are underway regarding the malicious damage to property incident at Temba Mliswa’s homestead in Shurugwi on 2 October 2025. Further updates will be provided in due course.”

A police source, speaking to NewsDay, estimated that the fire destroyed property and infrastructure valued between US$120,000 and US$200,000. The officer added:
“I can confirm that a fire damaged one bedroom hut, which Mliswa used, at his homestead on 2 October around midnight, as reported by the resident maid. The estimated losses amount to US$120,000 to US$200,000.”

The source further noted that one of the three individuals present at the homestead at the time of the fire heard a vehicle passing by shortly before the blaze intensified, which was noticed approximately 30 minutes later.
