Highlanders Football Club, one of Zimbabwe’s most revered football institutions, has been plunged into crisis following the dramatic resignation of its acting CEO, Kindman Ndlovu.
His departure has triggered widespread allegations of corruption and mismanagement at the club’s highest levels, prompting growing calls for an official investigation by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
Ndlovu’s resignation was anything but routine. In a strongly worded letter, he accused Finance Executive Nkani Khoza of fostering a toxic work environment and intentionally hindering the club’s operations. While the letter revealed internal dysfunction, fans and insiders believe it only scratches the surface of broader systemic problems.
Some supporters view the timing of the resignation with skepticism, questioning whether it is an attempt to deflect attention from deeper wrongdoing.
“This isn’t leadership—it’s daylight looting under the banner of football,” said Mandla Tshuma, a spokesperson for the Cowdray Park supporters’ group. “Why do these revelations always come after the fact? We want accountability, not excuses.”
Internal documents reportedly shared among club members and fan circles point to serious irregularities in financial dealings. These include inflated player signing fees, favoritism in player salaries, kickback arrangements involving executives, and potential conflicts of interest regarding medical referrals.
Club insiders describe a culture where insiders benefit personally while the club’s competitiveness and finances deteriorate.
“This club isn’t run like a football team anymore—it’s a cash cow for a few individuals,” claimed a staff member who requested anonymity.

Highlanders FC Engulfed in Corruption Scandal Following CEO’s Resignation
The scandal comes at a time when Highlanders are already struggling with poor performance on the field and instability in leadership. The club has seen multiple changes in its top executive positions in a short span, with auditors now reportedly unwilling to endorse its financial statements due to irregularities.
Supporter confidence has hit rock bottom, and tensions between fans and the club’s administration continue to rise.
With trust in the current leadership eroded, fans are calling for immediate intervention. Demands include a comprehensive forensic audit of all financial activities, suspension of any officials implicated in misconduct, and urgent restructuring of the club’s financial management systems.
The pressure is now on both club authorities and national institutions like ZACC to act swiftly and restore credibility to one of Zimbabwe’s most storied football clubs.
