Rogue Ex-City Officer Busted for Posing as Parking Attendant in Harare CBD

by Bustop TV News

A man allegedly masquerading as a City of Harare parking attendant has been exposed for causing widespread disturbance and extorting money from motorists and residents in the Harare Central Business District, prompting authorities to move in for his arrest and prosecution.

The suspect has been identified as Farai G. Garachani, a former Harare Metropolitan Police patrolman who was dismissed from the City of Harare earlier this year following allegations of extorting residents. He is accused of operating in the CBD while posing as a municipal official, demanding parking fees and intimidating members of the public.

City officials say investigations have since revealed the existence of a gang of criminals who are allegedly impersonating municipal police officers, threatening and harassing residents and motorists under the guise of enforcing city by-laws. The activities of the group have reportedly caused fear and confusion in the CBD, with unsuspecting residents falling victim to the illegal scheme.

Authorities have been alerted and are actively pursuing the suspects, with a view to arresting and prosecuting all those involved. The City of Harare has urged anyone who may have been extorted or harassed by Garachani or his associates to immediately report the matter to the Zimbabwe Republic Police or municipal authorities to assist ongoing investigations.

City officials also commended vigilant residents who have come forward to expose the criminal activities, noting that public cooperation remains critical in restoring order and protecting communities from such rogue elements.

The City of Harare has reiterated its call for residents to remain alert and to continue reporting any suspicious behaviour. It further stressed that all legitimate municipal police officers must be properly identified, wear official uniforms at all times, and conduct their duties in line with the law.
