Socialite Mai TT Issues Public Apology Over Defamation Claims

Zimbabwean socialite and comedian Mai TT has extended a heartfelt apology to Hon. Farai Jere and his wife, Mrs. Shingi Ziwange-Jere, following a legal demand for the retraction of alleged defamatory posts made on social media.

“I would like to offer my deepest and most sincere apology to Hon. Farai Jere and his wife, Mrs. Shingi Ziwange-Jere, for the posts made on social media regarding you. I regret the hurt and distress caused and take full responsibility for my actions,” she said.

“It was never my intention to bring harm or disrespect. I acknowledge the damage done. Please accept this apology with genuine remorse.”

This public apology follows a cease-and-desist letter issued by lawyers representing Ziwange-Jere, who accused Mai TT of spreading harmful and untrue statements that allegedly damaged their client’s reputation both within Zimbabwe and abroad.

According to the legal notice, Mai TT was given a strict 12-hour deadline to issue a full and unconditional retraction, along with a public expression of regret, or face legal consequences.

“Our client has significant national and international business relationships. The false accusations, which have circulated widely, have seriously harmed her standing and undermined her most valuable asset — her reputation,” the letter stated.

Although some of the controversial posts were later deleted, Ziwange-Jere’s legal representatives argue that the content’s digital footprint continues to inflict harm.

The legal team further accused Mai TT of “sadfishing”—using emotionally charged posts to gain public sympathy—and of using Ziwange-Jere’s name to indirectly attack third parties with whom she has previous conflicts.

“The nature of your social media commentary suggests you are using our client to wage a proxy war against individuals with whom you have prior conflicts. Our client will not tolerate being used in this manner,” the lawyers wrote.

Failure to comply with the demands, the letter warns, will result in legal proceedings.
