DISGRUNTLED cotton farmers from Gokwe have taken back their produce from government owned Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO) after it had failed to pay them for the produce.
The farmers had sold their produce to the company and awaited for payment which came in inform of groceries instead of money.
In a video clip seen by this publication, many farmers are seen transporting their produce from COTTCO offices.
“This is currently happening today at Mutora, farmers have taken their cotton bales from Cottco and are refusing to be robbed of their hard earned money.
“Vabereki vajamuka, vangwara varimi,” narrated a man who was recording the video.
This comes at a time when there have been serious corruption allegations at COTTCO.
Gokwe member of parliament Mayor Wadyajena, COTTCO bosses managing director Pious Manamike and marketing and business development manager, Maxmore Njanji, were arrested last year for allegedly stealing COTTCO inputs meant for distribution to farmers.
The inputs included seed, sprays and fertilisers and filled three trucks. Police also recovered bicycles and motorcycles.
