In a consolidated effort to fabricate strategic synergies with the highest institutions of learning and churn out graduates who are fit for purpose to serve in the public service, the Public Service Commission (PSC) recently rolled out a public lecture at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).

The public lecture which was themed,” Leveraging Technology and Entrepreneurial Skills to Enhance Public Service Delivery: The Public Service Perspective,” attracted a coterie of attendance of the PSC commissioner, Dr Mombeshora, CUT Vice Chancellor, Professor Simbi, senior government officials, university staff and a plethora of students who were solely enlightened by the lecture.

In his welcome remarks, which was delivered by Pro-Vice Chancellor, Innovation, Enterprise Development and Industrialisation, Professor T. Bere, CUT Vice Chancellor Professor Simbi expressed the institutions’ warm gratitude to the PSC for bringing the public lecture to them citing that it serves as a watershed moment to other areas of collaboration.

He further accentuated the imperative of collectively working together with the government human capital and development agency in not just preparing graduates who will be fit for purpose to serve in the public service but to drive the national developmental thrust of attaining Vision 2030.

The major highlights of the lecture primarily focused on a plethora of pertinent aspects chief among them being awareness of what entails the roles and the functions of the Public Service Commission (PSC) to ensure that all learners are conversant of the constitutional mandate of the commission in human capital development and management with the second part enlightening the university students on the paramount importance of digital skills in national development.

CUT students and university staff were afforded an opportunity to engage with the commission’s commissioner through an engaging dialogue of the plenary session which further enlightened them on various issues showing beyond any iota of doubt how the lecture event fostered a platform for the exchange of ideas.

The PSC Lecture circuits programme at the highest institutions of learning was conceived as a vehicle to raise awareness about the PSC and craft partnerships with the universities in a bid to produce graduates who are skilled to serve in the public sector with the inaugural lecture conducted in the third quarter of 2024 at Gwamda State University.

Other institutions where the lecture was convened includes Lupane State University, Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences, Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE), Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) and Midlands State University (MSU).
