Roving ICT Expo Kicks Off in Mutare, Advancing Zimbabwe’s Digitalization Agenda

by Bustop TV News

The Roving ICT Expo, a key initiative under Zimbabwe’s national digital transformation program, opened this morning at the Mutare Showgrounds, drawing enthusiastic crowds and prominent stakeholders as the country intensifies efforts to bridge the digital divide.

Launched under the theme “Digitalise the Great Republic of Zimbabwe,” the event forms part of the Ministry of ICTs’ nationwide campaign to foster technological inclusion through direct community engagement.

The Expo, organised by Video Promotion Africa, features interactive exhibitions, hands-on demonstrations, and digital learning platforms aimed at empowering citizens with modern tools and knowledge.

From the outset, the venue buzzed with activity as exhibitors from across sectors introduced innovative digital solutions to visitors. The initiative seeks to make technology accessible to all, particularly underserved communities, in alignment with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030—a roadmap toward an empowered upper-middle-income society.

Provincial and national figures were in attendance, signalling strong political backing for the drive. Among the early arrivals was Hon. Patricia Kundhlande, Women Quota MP for Chimanimani and Provincial Chair for Young Women for Economic Development (YW4ED), accompanied by a delegation of YW4ED participants. Also present was Mr. John “Chitepo” Kanyikwanaka, Secretary-General of the Boys Dzamdara Manicaland chapter.

The Expo is being hosted by Hon. Adv. Misheck Mugadza, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) and MP for Mutasa South. The Guest of Honour, Hon. Dr. Tatenda Mavetera—Minister of ICTs and National Chairperson of YW4ED, is expected to officiate proceedings later in the day.

Speaking to the media, event coordinators underscored the Ministry’s commitment to not only expand digital access but also foster practical understanding through platforms like The New Age TV series and Digitalise Zimbabwe magazine. These media channels supplement the Roving ICT Expo’s mission by offering ongoing guidance and inspiration.

The Expo is part of a broader national strategy championed by His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, who also serves as the current Chair of the SADC Summit. The initiative reflects regional goals under SADC Vision 2050, which emphasises technological innovation as a driver for inclusive growth and industrialisation.

As the program continues throughout the day, more delegates and citizens are expected to participate, highlighting growing community interest in embracing digital tools for development.
