Three City of Harare employees lost their lives this morning at the Morton Jaffray Water Works near Norton after an accident on a decommissioned clarifier.
In a statement, council confirmed the tragedy, saying preliminary information suggests the workers were carrying out maintenance duties when the incident occurred. Authorities say a full investigation has been launched to establish what went wrong.
“The City of Harare regrets to announce the tragic passing of three of our employees at Morton Jaffray Water Works this morning,” the statement read.
Police have since attended the scene.
This latest incident comes only months after two workers died at another city water treatment facility in Glenview, raising renewed concerns over worker safety and the local authority’s commitment to providing adequate protective equipment and safe working conditions.
