Bulawayo police have arrested two Egyptian nationals for violating Zimbabwe’s immigration laws by overstaying their visas.

According to court records, the pair were convicted at Tredgold Magistrates’ Court for unlawfully remaining in the country after their immigration permits had expired.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) stated:

“Mahmoud Abdelazim Aly Hassan (46), an Egyptian national and resident of Barham Green, Bulawayo, entered Zimbabwe on 20 May 2024 through the Beitbridge Border Post. He was granted a seven-day visa, which expired on 27 May 2024.”

Hassan remained in the country for over a year and was apprehended on 19 June 2025.

“He overstayed by 395 days,” said the NPA.

Hassan’s counterpart, Mohamed Eladawy Sanad Elgonimy (31), a resident of Paddonview Flats, entered Zimbabwe on 21 December 2024 via Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport.

“Elgonimy was issued a 30-day holiday visa, which expired on 20 January 2025,” the NPA added.

He overstayed by 150 days.

Elgonimy was fined USD 300, with an alternative sentence of four months’ imprisonment in the event of non-payment.
